Jiangsu Province and graduated from the Oil Painting Department of China Academy of Art.

Now lives and works in Hangzhou.


本次展览将展出画家蒋博宇于2011-2021的十年间创作的花卉系列作品89件,是其花卉系列作品首次向公众集体呈现

展览是蒋博宇艺术实验探索的阶段性总结,也将系统展现画家十年间的创作历程——一个人与艺术长河的战斗史。

近些年来,他每天的工作便是对着花草写生。从花开画到花落,从绽放画到凋零,他以苦行僧般的姿态,记录了这些植物的生命周期。蒋博宇极为固执地、一遍又一遍地将颜色往画布上反复涂抹、堆砌,这样的创作过程很容易让我们想起塞尚、贾克梅蒂等艺术家。

The past few years has witnessed him painting flowers and grass every day. The life circles of these plants, from blooming to fading, are recorded on the canvases by such an ascetic artist like him. With great persistence, or even stubbornness so to speak, he is putting more and more strokes in the limited space of a canvas. Such a creative process reminds me of Paul Cézanne, Alberto Giacometti and others.

大约两年前,蒋博宇有了要办个展的想法,显而易见,这是他又一次对自己绘画道路的规划。当他谈起个展的想法时,蒋博宇就兴奋不已,他说要以花、静物为题材来完成一批作品,以此展现自己在绘画中的体验以及对油画技艺的感悟。当他用手机向我展示一些作品时,许多畅快淋漓的小尺寸画作让人眼前陡然一亮,为此,我开始期待他的展览,期待他更多作品的诞生。

His idea of holding a solo exhibition took shape about two years ago. Clearly, this was his another attempt to plan his career in painting. When he talked about his solo exhibition, he was more than excited, saying that he was to paint a series of works with flowers and still lives as subjects so as to show his particular experience in painting and his thoughts on the oil painting art. The miniature works he showed to me via his smart phone made me so amazed that I began to expect his exhibition and anticipate more works of his.

比利时画家图伊曼斯、波尔曼斯,都自称师承传统,钟爱马奈和库尔贝。其实,论技艺的高度较之前者,难以望其项背,但小小的一点“演化”——画面的图像处理与主题角度,使他们在架上绘画走投无路之际,宛如一缕微光,照亮了众多的迷茫者。

“传承演化”对于绝大数的画者,应是艺术进程的大道,正道。

按照这样的思路,去揣测蒋博宇绘画的转变,似乎看到他变化的轨迹和秘密——静物与花卉,在绘画里最可能产生突破性的转变。这是我的主观的臆想?塞尚、梵高、毕加索和马蒂斯不就是最好的例证吗!

The Belgian painters Luc Tuymans and Michael Borremans both claim that they are successors of the tradition, and that they are fond of the painting style of Édouard Mane and Jean Desire Gustave Courbet. Though there was no comparison in terms of skills with those of their idols, their tiny change in painting in image processing and theme angle, was like a glimmer of light that enlightened numerous painters who were confused about where to go next for the shelf painting.

"Inheritance and evolution" is the way, and the right way for the historical progress.

Based on the above, if we speculate on the transformation of Jiang's paintings, we seem to see the trace and secrets, that is, still life and flower and plant, which is the point where ground-breaking transformation is the most likely to happen. Is this only my subjective assumption? No, PaulCézanne, Vincent Willem van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse are the best examples.

显然,在数字构建的崭新时代,像蒋博宇这样的画家是“西西弗斯式”的,他在继续战斗,即便在时代的旁观者眼中,这样的战斗已消解为一块永远会滚落下来的顽石,但这又怎样呢?他拒绝自己的任何雷同,将不满意的画作付之一炬,为每一件完成的作品的诞生喜悦庆祝。在这日趋教条的艺术界面前,就是需要有这样西西弗斯式的英雄主义的画家来发出“我依旧在画画”的声音。正如加缪说的:“人一定要想象西西弗斯的快乐”因为“向着高处挣扎本身足以填满一个人的心灵。”

Apparently, in the new era of digital construction, a painter like Jiang Boyu is nothing but Sisyphus. He keeps fighting though the fighting is endless in the eyes of bystanders, but does it matter? He refuses any copying and puts to fire those unsatisfactory to him and celebrates the birth of every completed work. The increasingly dogmatic world of art needs such voices from heroic painter Sisyphus, I am still painting. As famous philosopher Albert Camus remarked,  Man must imagine what Sisyphus happiness is like. That is because struggling towards the top suffices to fill a mans soul.
